Revolution Glass Skin Collection Review

I've been loving the 'Glass Skin' makeup trend floating around Instagram lately, the trend promotes baby-soft, poreless skin and glossy textures and is perfect for an editorial look. Revolution has come out with a whole Glass skin inspired collection and it's absolutely beautiful. The collection consists of  2 eyeshadow palettes 'Glass Mirror' & 'Black Ice', 2 setting sprays 'Glass Glow Fix' & 'Glass Shimmer Fix', 2 primers 'Glass Liquid Skin Primer Serum' & 'Glass Skin Primer' and also a 'Glass Lipgloss'.

The collection originally had 3 illuminator highlighters, however, due to a flagged issue regarding MannyMua, these have quickly been removed and discontinued - despite the issue at hand (you can search online if you're curious as I won't be gossiping on this blog!) I was really impressed at how quickly Revolution handled it.

The packaging of this collection is absolutely gorgeous, although I don't keep the cardboard packaging as it just goes straight into the recycling - I love the holographic vibe and the attention to detail, it's a definite stand out collection from Revolution.

As you can see above, the packaging of the actual eyeshadow palette is gorgeous and has a reflective, 3D design which is really cool and I'm a big fan of. First up, we have the Glass Mirror eyeshadow palette which is £10 and contains 15 eyeshadow ranging from blues, to pinks and purples and a deep coppery bronze shade so I would happily say this is a versatile palette to use. I do wish the palette had a lighter transition, matte shade to work with as the baby blue in the palette is actually a very subtle shimmer, I would have preferred this to be a matte shade but that's just my preference. The palette performed beautifully and I created an evening glam look using the deep matte brown, the bright pink and the bronze colour as my main shades - it turned out to be a gorgeous look and I didn't find any trouble blending shades together, or with pigmentation from the shimmer. The bronze shade is absolutely stunning and is so creamy and pigmented - really impressed with that. You'll be able to see the look I created with this palette on my YouTube channel very soon.

Next up, the 'Glass Mirror' palettes grungey sister - the 'Black Ice' eyeshadow palette which is also £10 and contains 15 shadows, mostly cool tones with a pop of bright red which I found very interesting and enticing as a creative makeup lover. With this palette, I wasn't initially sure what look I'd create as silver/cool tones don't tend to be my thing so I opted for a glam date night/girls night look using the bottom 2nd from left, green/silver shade and then the beautiful olive green shade in the middle of the palette at the bottom. I was really impressed with that green/silver shade as you can see in my YouTube video here, I didn't wet my eyeshadow brush or apply it to a sticky base and it was so shimmery and reflective, a real stand out shade.

I love how within this collection, Revolution came out with some complexion products - I find a lot of collections from makeup brands, in general, tend to be; an eyeshadow palette, a highlighter and some lipsticks, so I love how they've brought out a choice of setting sprays and primers, especially given this, is a complexion inspired collection.

Out of the two setting sprays, my favourite is actually the 'Glass Shimmer Iridescent Fixing Spray' - it has such a super fine mist, and although there is a little shimmer on your face after (you have to give it a shake first) you don't resemble a sparkly vampire and actually looks really pretty, I'll definitely be using this in the summertime. The 'Glass Glow Fix Ultimate Glow Dewy Fixing Spray' is also lovely and the mist is super fine, I wouldn't necessarily say it gives your skin a dewy look but feels nice on top of makeup so I will still be reaching for this on an everyday basis. Both of the setting sprays retail for £8 from Revolution Beauty here and other retailers, which as always for this budget-friendly brand is a really good price.

What's a 'glass skin' inspired look without some primers/skincare inspired products? There's two primers from this range - the 'Glass Liquid Skin Illuminating Skin Primer' £8 and the 'Glass Skin Primer' which is £10. Out of the two primers, my favourite is without a doubt the illuminating skin primer as it firstly smells amazing (I struggle to describe the smell, something like sweets and just 'freshness') and feels like a skincare primer on the skin, leaves the skin looking healthy and glowy and will definitely become a go-to for me. The Glass Skin Primer isn't my favourite, it felt quite runny on my hands which is different than a typical smoothing primer so I was excited to try however on application to my face, it felt quite greasy and didn't feel like it would hold makeup very well throughout the day - I think if you're someone who has particular dryer skin, wants a really dewy finish or is doing something for photography then you will like this, it's just not going to be an everyday primer for me.

Below is a photo of the 3 illuminators that were originally in the collection before they were pulled for legal reasons by the sounds of things. As you can no longer get these, I won't go too much into detail I just thought it would be good to show you what they looked like in this post.

Finishing touch - the 'Glass Lip Gloss' which is £5, has a really nice formula - it feels very thick in the tube but not thick and sticky on your lips. My only small critique with this product is that the suction at the top of the tube takes off too much product of the applicator wand, so you have to go in a couple times to get the desired glossiness. Being a clear gloss, after time this won't be completely clear, unless you've only used it on bare lips but I do really like it and I would love to see them bring out a subtle pink shade too.

Overall, the Glass Skin collection by Revolution is a really beautiful collection that I think as a makeup lover, you can have a lot of fun with and take some really cool photos - check it out on Revolution's site here
