XX Revolution - Revolutions New Brand

Skincare and makeup combined - meet XX Revolution; a new brand to the Revolution family of sister brands. XX Revolution has started off with a hypothetical bang to their launch - with an assortment of different primers for different skin types, two different types of foundations, eyeshadows, blushers and the list goes on.

You can check out what XX Revolution has to offer here. Otherwise, continue reading to hear my initial thoughts of the products I've personally tried out from this exciting new beauty launch.

First off, the packaging of this eyeshadow palette is absolutely gorgeous - it's a pink crackled marble effect and the whole palette has some weight to it, which instantly makes it feel more luxurious. This palette is all shimmer and gives me Charlotte Tilbury vibes - I haven't used this palette just yet but there is a review/tutorial coming soon on my YouTube channel, make sure you're subscribed and hit the notification bell so you're alerted when it goes live here. This palette is £16 and is super travel-friendly, it's also cruelty-free and vegan which we love. I think this palette would be perfect for a night out makeup bag - where you've got a selection of eye-catching shimmers to amp up your look.

The primer section of the new XX Revolution launch is choc-a-block of selections - 11 in total, 6 of which are in these stunning jars. They retail for £15 and you get 24ml of product which I really don't think is all too bad considering this is more of a 'luxe' side step for Revolution. Out of the 11 primers, I have 3 to try - the 'Cloud CompleXXion Primer, the 'Hydra Quench Bomb Primer' and the 'H2 Glow Bomb Primer'.

The blue shimmery one in the middle photo below is the H2 Glow Bomb which is just so aesthetically pleasing, it has little illuminating particles in which help to boost radiance and aloe vera as an ingredient to add hydration - which I also think would be good for sensitive skins as aloe vera is a known cooling ingredient.

Aloe vera seems to be a strong contender in the ingredient listing as the Hydra Quench Bomb Primer also contains green aloe vera gel and feels incredibly hydrating - both of these primers would be ideal for dryer skin types.

I tend to prefer a more smoothing primer, so when trying out the full face of XX Revolution I went for the Cloud Complexxion primer to help with that - the formula is unlike anything I've ever felt before, it's like a whipped soft marshmallow and when you rub it into your face it almost bursts with hydration - I'm so obsessed with this!

Out of the launch, XX Revolution have brought out two huge eyeshadow palettes - 'XXplosion' which is the one I have which has more 'wearable' neutral shades and 'XXtravaganza' which is a rainbow palette, I think the fact they have two different options in the large palette sizes rather than just the rainbow one is amazing as it gives every type of makeup lover a palette to lean toward. Both palettes retail for £28, have 66 shades - 6 'staple shadows' and 60 other shades with a mixture of mattes and shimmers.

I do think that in the XXplosion eyeshadow palette, there's a few cross over or very similar shades I personally feel they could've added in something different but I do guess it's all about adding different tones and dimension. I'm sure that the skin on my arm would rub off if I was to swatch every single shade in this palette so below I have swatched some stand out shades that I was initially drawn to when opening up this palette. Swatches I feel show the true pigment of a shadow but it's really how they perform on the eyes that's important - you can see it live here. I think the shimmers in this palette are just gorgeous and I think if you're more into neutral tones and just want a pop of colour every now and then, then this palette may be for you. This palette is currently out of stock at the time of writing this post however I've contacted the XX Revolution team and it's coming back soon!

One half of the XX Revolution foundations is the 'Glow Skin FauXXdation' which is described as a medium-full coverage foundation with added hyaluronic acid and gives you a 'lit from within radiance'. This foundation when looking on the Revolution site has been formulated with added collagen and peptides and I can see although this is cruelty-free, it's not vegan - and it may be from the collagen. I've DM'd them on Instagram so once I know for sure I shall update this post. Both foundations come in 55 shades with all undertones which is amazing as I'm sure everyone will be able to find the correct shade. I've not yet tried this foundation out on my face but will be soon in an upcoming YouTube video, alongside the Quartz eyeshadow palette. Packaging wise, I love it! Super classy, luxe feeling glass bottles with a pink duo-chrome lid - I'm a big fan. I've swatched some shades down below for you to see which are from left to right; FX5.5, FX5.7, FX6, FX6.7 and FX7.

The second half of the XX Revolution foundations is the 'Liquid Skin FauXXdation Double FiXX Foundation' - phew, what a name! This foundation is described as a full-coverage silk finish foundation, I personally would say this is more on the matte side and reminded me of the heavy-duty Urban Decay all nighter foundation but didn't settle into my fine lines on my forehead as much which is a big win! I would recommend this foundation if you're looking for something super full coverage and Instagram worthy. Both foundations are £15 each which I think is a really good price and I'd be happy to pay that and they're an amazing addition to a makeup artist kit too. The shades I've got are; F5.5, F5.7, 6 and 7 which are swatched below left to right for your reference.

The new brand launch also has some really beautiful complexion add on products - such as face palettes and highlighter powders in a variety of shades to suit many skin tones and makeup styles. These face products are housed in gorgeous pink packaging with XX on the lid as an added detail, I really think so much attention to detail has gone into this collection which definitely sets it aside from everything else Revolution.

The 'CompleXXion Face Palette' (£18) in the shade 'Gravitate' reminds me of the hourglass ambient light palettes which I don't own so I cannot compare too much - it's more so how the powders are houses in the palette and the way they lift slightly above the pan. The blush in this palette is noticeably very shimmery just as a note if you're not into shimmery blushers. The bronzer is a little too dark for my complexion but when applied with a big fluffy brush I could control the colour, although it's not a bronzer I would typically reach for. For highlighter in the look I tried, I went for the 'XXposure Highlighter' (£12) in the shade 'Focus' which is a more golden tone which Revolution describes as a champagne shade, this was just so beautiful and added such a glow to my face, I've used this a few times since initially trying it out and you can see it in action here

Finally, the lip product I have to try is the 'XXtra Glow Lip Gloss' in the shade 'Strike' (£8) which is a clear gloss with a white pearl shimmer. I actually loved the formula of this gloss, I just wish a little more product came out on the wand so you could get a super juicy finish. This gloss wasn't sticky at all and felt almost like a lip balm with subtle flecks of glitter - you can see it in action here

Overall, I'm really impressed with XX Revolution's offerings and will continue to use the primers, foundations and highlighters often. I would happily agree on the price inflation of these products compared to the other Revolution branded products as the quality really is amazing.
